How to Find the Right Cup Sizes for Corsets

Whether making a corset for yourself or a customer, you’ll need to get it sized just right. Everyone’s body is different! That’s probably not a surprise to you, but what might surprise you is just how many different measurements you’ll need to make.

Bust, underbust, natural waist, upper hip, and torso length must all be measured. Are you or your client more muscular or on the less-toned side? We’re not body shaming anyone with that question; it’s just that corsets don’t compress muscular physiques much and will fit differently than someone who’s dimensionally similar but not as toned.

What About Cup Size?

In this article, we’re focusing on determining cup size for your corsets, so let’s discuss the measurements you’ll need. For an overbust corset, you’ll need to measure the band and the bust size to arrive at the cup size. Let’s get started!

1. Band Size

The band is the area just under the breasts. Before taking the measurements, you or your client need to wear a standard bra you would wear on any given day.

Keep your arms relaxed and stand up straight. Take your tape measure and wrap it around the chest, just under the breasts. For the sake of this example, let’s say you got 35 inches.

1. Bust Size

For the bust size, take the tape measure and wrap it around the fullest area of the breasts. Again, take this measurement with the bra on. By way of example, we’ll say the measurement is 38 inches.

1. Cup Size

Now that we have these two measurements, we can determine the cup size with a little math. Subtract the bust size from the band size like so:

38 inches - 35 inches = 3 inches

At 3 inches, this means the person in question has a C cup. To help you out, here is a chart of cup sizes:

• B cup: 2-inch difference

• C cup: 3-inch difference

• D cup: 4-inch difference

• DD cup: 5-inch difference

• DDD cup: 6-inch difference

• F cup: 7-inch difference

• G cup: 8-inch difference

• H cup: 9-inch difference

Of course, you might need more measurements at some point, but this will get you on the right path with cup size for your overbust corset!
